Science and Technology at the Ecosystems Center

Science is often thought of as a linear process that leads to new technologies. In fact, science and technology both contribute to innovations in how we observe, detect, communicate, and predict changes in the environment. For example, scientists often test new technologies in their research, which can then lead to a clearer understanding of nature’s fundamental processes. Scientists at the Ecosystems Center have especially succeeded in applying new methods and techniques across scientific disciplines. Other ecologists, for example, have pointed to the Ecosystems Center’s success in integrating stable isotope studies with mathematical models of biogeochemical cycles in an Alaskan tundra ecosystem.
