The MBL History Project Closes Out a Fourth Season

On Friday, July 22, 2016, the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) History Project closed its doors on its fourth season.

This year, ASU University Professor, Jane Maienschein, along with MBL History Project Manager and CBS Project Coordinator, Kate MacCord, led a team of four ASU graduate students, and two undergraduates from Brown University and Barnard College, through a 10-week stay in Woods Hole, MA.

This summer the MBL Community Archives Project is holding three Open House Fridays, on July 12th, 26th, and August 2nd. These events will be held in the Grass Reading Room of the MBLWHOI Library at 12 noon, and the community is invited to attend. 

On July 12th, Arizona State University History of Science doctoral students Kate MacCord and Lijing Jiang will speak about research they have conducted in China and at the Marine Biological Laboratory on connections between the MBL and instituions in China in the early 20th Century. Refreshments will be served.

MBL Community Archives Opens for the Summer

An exciting opening to the MBL Community Archives Project took place on Friday, May 25th in the Grass Reading Room, and down the hall in the new archives intake studio Lillie Rm 228 in the MBLWHOI Library. The MBL Community Archives is a community-generated collection of photographs, video reminiscences, and science memorabilia, all a part of the new History of the MBL website

MBL Community Archives begins May 28th

During MBL’s 125th anniversary this summer, the MBL Community Archives Project asks you to contribute your photographs, memories, stories, letters, and research or course notebooks to our community generated archive. Your contributions will be converted to high-quality scans for our digital repository, which provides content to the History of MBL website. ALL members of the MBL Community are invited to contribute their 2 dimensional and spoken memories of their lives and MBL. 

April 26 Joint Atlantic Seminar for the History of Biology

On April 25-26, the Marine Biological Laboratory will be hosting the 48th Joint Atlantic Seminar for the History of Biology. A demo of this website and of the Embryo Project will be held during the Friday afternoon workshop on informatics and digital history and philosophy of science from 2:00-5:00 in Speck Auditorium, Rowe Laboratory (10 MBL St.)
